Parent Teacher Organization

MISSION STATEMENT

The West Platte PTO is a non-profit parent teacher organization whose mission is to provide support to the students, teachers, and administrators of our school district while encouraging the involvement of parents in the educational process. Our goal is to complement the classroom learning environment by sponsoring assistance for supplemental educational materials and experiences, offering appreciation and recognition to teachers and staff for the dedication they provide to our children, and promoting volunteerism among parents in serving our district.

EVENTS

The PTO sponsors a wide variety of programs and activities at West Platte. In recent years, some items sponsored by the PTO include assemblies on bullying, internet safety, and science appreciation, as well as programs encouraging reading and good character. The PTO provided two new mascot costumes to promote team spirit at school events; a “Little Jay” for the elementary and a “Big Jay” for the high school. The PTO supplemented school funding for teacher workroom supplies, student field trips, and reading incentive materials, as well as providing yearly scholarships to West Platte Seniors. The organization strives to recognize every teacher and staff member in our district throughout the year in a variety of methods, many times involving treats!

MEETINGS

The PTO meets throughout the school year, on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Meetings are led by the Board of Directors elected by a vote of the PTO membership. Board members manage the organizational and financial aspects of all PTO functions, with the help of member committees and school liaisons. The money used to sponsor PTO activities is raised through PTO dues and annual fundraising events.

GOALS

The final goal of the organization is to encourage all parents, teachers, staff and administrators to work together for the good of our school and, ultimately, the well-being of our children. Please join us for a meeting to learn more about this unique and rewarding volunteer opportunity!

All meetings begin at 7:00 pm and are held in the High School FACS room. Children are always welcomed!!
